The Arunachal minister agenda took center stage at the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Annual General Meeting 2025 held in New Delhi. Representing Arunachal Pradesh, Agriculture Minister Tage Taki presented a strong 10-point plan focusing on skill-based agricultural education, agri-entrepreneurship, and region-specific research.

The minister emphasized that traditional agriculture practices in hill states need modern adaptation and scientific innovation. His presentation received attention for its clarity, structure, and relevance to the northeastern region.

Key Points of the 10-Point Agenda

Minister Taki’s 10-point proposal at the ICAR AGM addressed multiple gaps in India’s agri-education and research systems. The key highlights of the Arunachal minister agenda include:

  • Introduction of Skill-Based Courses: Proposing diploma and certification programs in farming, fisheries, and horticulture for youth.
  • Integration with National Skill Mission: Aligning state agri-education with central skill-building initiatives.
  • Boosting Agri-Startups: Creating incubation hubs for rural youth to turn agri-ideas into businesses.
  • Tribal Farming Research: Encouraging studies based on traditional tribal knowledge and ecology.
  • Soil and Climate Mapping: Promoting micro-zonal agri-planning for each district in Arunachal.
  • Customised Crop Advisory Services: Real-time farmer support using AI and mobile technology.
  • Research on Organic Practices: Developing organic-friendly tools and eco-farming techniques.
  • Improving Agri-Infra: Recommending better research stations and training labs in Northeast.
  • Collaboration with Global Institutions: Inviting ICAR to partner with international agri-schools.
  • Budget Allocation for Hill Farming: Requesting a separate funding window for difficult terrains.

Skill-Based Education Key to Northeast Growth

Speaking at the ICAR AGM, Minister Taki said the future of agriculture lies in “smart, sustainable, and skilled” farmers. He noted that most students in the region move away from agriculture due to a lack of structured career opportunities.

“The youth in Arunachal want training that leads to jobs and income. We must modernize how we teach farming,” said Taki.

The ICAR Director General lauded the Arunachal minister agenda and agreed to explore pilot projects in the northeastern states.

Wider Support for Region-Specific Planning

The proposal received support from other northeastern ministers and ICAR members. Experts believe such agendas could help integrate hill agriculture with mainstream research while respecting local practices.
