Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met with Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam on February 11, 2025. The discussions centered on enhancing collaboration between Assam and Singapore, focusing on sectors such as semiconductors, deep technology, infrastructure, and manufacturing.

Advantage Assam 2.0: A Platform for Growth

The meeting with President Shanmugaratnam is a precursor to the upcoming ‘Advantage Assam 2.0 – Investment and Infrastructure Summit 2025’, scheduled for February 25-26 in Guwahati. This summit aims to position Assam as an emerging hub for advanced industries and innovation. Chief Minister Sarma’s visit to Singapore underscores the state’s commitment to attracting global investments and fostering strategic collaborations.

Engaging with Industry Leaders

During his visit, Chief Minister Sarma engaged with leaders from eight prominent semiconductor companies, including ASMPT, AEM, Besi, Temasek, Silicon Box, Nitto Denko Corp, Heller Industries, and Meinhardt Group. He invited these industry leaders to explore opportunities in Assam’s Electronic City in Jagiroad, aiming to advance the semiconductor ecosystem within the state.

Strengthening Diplomatic Relations

In addition to meeting with President Shanmugaratnam, Chief Minister Sarma held discussions with Singapore’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Vivian Balakrishnan. These talks focused on deepening ties between Assam and Singapore, aligning with India’s Act East Policy. The Chief Minister acknowledged Singapore’s partnership in the upcoming Advantage Assam 2.0 summit and emphasized Assam’s strategic role in furthering the Indo-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
