Guwahati: District Commissioner of Cachar, Mridul Yadav, on Friday chaired a crucial land acquisition meeting aimed at removing obstacles and fast-tracking major highway projects under the Bharat Mala initiative in Barak Valley.
The meeting saw participation from senior district officials, NHIDCL representatives, and other departmental stakeholders. Discussions began with the Silchar–Badarpur–Churaibari Package-1, focusing on clearance at Srikona, land complications in the Defence Estate at Tarapur, and relocation of both government and private institutions to keep work on schedule.
Attention then shifted to Package-2 (Panchgram Bypass) and Package-3 (Badarpur Bypass), where the administration emphasized the preparation of an additional 3G report to hasten approvals. Land disputes in Karaikandi that have delayed Package-3 were given special consideration.
For the Silchar–Vairengte Package-1, the meeting addressed challenges involving Rongpur High School and the Rongpur Police Out Post, along with the distribution of compensation and use of newly sanctioned funds. In Package-2, officials planned timelines for 3A notification approval and the preparation of 3D and 3G reports.
Concluding the session, the DC underlined that Bharat Mala corridors will be “lifelines of growth and connectivity” for the Barak Valley, urging teamwork, transparent land acquisition, and swift dispute resolution.
The Silchar–Badarpur–Vairengte network under Bharat Mala is expected to reshape connectivity, boost regional trade, and strengthen transport links with the Northeast. Friday’s meeting laid out clear directives, marking a decisive step towards rapid infrastructure development in southern Assam.
