Guwahati, October 16, 2025, The Assam government has announced that the investigation and trial in the Zubeen Garg case will now move to a fast-track court. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the decision was taken to ensure that justice is delivered swiftly and transparently.
The Chief Minister revealed that a Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) will be appointed to handle the case exclusively. The government, he said, will extend every form of support to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the circumstances surrounding the death of the singer-actor, who passed away earlier this month.
Fast-Track Court for Swift Justice
CM Sarma said the government understands the emotional weight of the case for the people of Assam. Zubeen Garg was not just a popular singer but a symbol of Assamese identity and youth culture. “The Zubeen Garg case will be tried in a fast-track court so that no delay occurs in bringing out the truth,” the Chief Minister stated. “We have decided to appoint a Special Public Prosecutor who will coordinate closely with the SIT and ensure that justice is neither delayed nor denied.”
