Dumduma Town: Just scoring above 90% on a mark sheet is no longer enough for today’s students. In fact, there is hardly any difference between scoring 60% and 90% now. Solely academic knowledge is not sufficient to define a student as a valuable human resource in society. Students must strive to succeed both academically and non-academically to truly make a mark.

This powerful message was delivered by Dr. Kamaleswar Kalita, Principal of Doomdooma College, during a special felicitation programme held at the ‘Kallol’ Auditorium of the college. The event, organized by the Doomdooma Regional Students’ Union, celebrated the achievements of 220 students who excelled in the High School and Higher Secondary examinations. Dr. Kalita, speaking as the chief guest, emphasized that the current education system poses new challenges for students, which they must be prepared to face—and in this, the role of parents has become even more important.

Referring to the National Education Policy (NEP), Dr. Kalita explained how the revised curriculum is designed to help students grow into responsible citizens. He also pointed out that students in Tinsukia district still lag behind in several areas, and parents need to share the responsibility for this gap.

The meeting was presided over by Biraj Gohain, President of Doomdooma Regional Students’ Union, and began with a welcome speech by General Secretary Samujjal Bora Sonowal.

Delivering his remarks as a key speaker, Dr. Amarjit Saikia, Principal of Bir Raghav Moran Government Model College, Doomdooma, discussed the new four-year undergraduate programme, stressing that students must attend classes regularly and be academically engaged to earn their degrees. He also highlighted the increasing responsibility of teachers in this process.

Over 500 students and guardians attended the event. Samarjyoti Gohain, Central Assistant Secretary of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), elaborated on AASU’s various initiatives for students and the importance of student activism. Other speakers included Jitendra Chutia (AASU executive member), Pratim Neog (District President), Koncheng Gogoi (District Secretary), Raja Bolimora, and Manoj Dutta (President, Doomdooma Press Club), among others.

Several dignitaries such as Anuj Kalita (former president of Tinsukia District Journalists’ Association), Deben DekaiRatul GogoiProf. Dwijen Sharma, and leaders from various ethnic and regional organizations also participated in the event.

The programme concluded with Durjoy Moran, Education Secretary of Doomdooma Regional Students’ Union, conducting the felicitation ceremony, where each student was presented with a certificate of appreciation and a document bag as a token of honor.
