Assam is gearing up for two monumental events that promise to showcase its rich cultural heritage and burgeoning economic potential: a record-breaking Jhumur dance performance and the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, these initiatives aim to highlight the state’s unique traditions and attract significant investments.
Celebrating Cultural Heritage: The Mega Jhumur Dance Event
Scheduled for February 24, 2025, at the Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati, the mega Jhumur dance event, titled “Jhumair Binandiya,” aims to set a world record with the participation of 8,000 artists from Assam’s tea garden communities. Jhumur, a traditional folk dance characterized by its vibrant costumes, expressive gestures, and rhythmic movements, holds a special place in the cultural tapestry of Assam. This performance seeks to introduce the Jhumur dance to a global audience, celebrating its significance and the rich traditions of the tea tribes.
The event also commemorates 200 years of Assam Tea, a milestone that underscores the state’s long-standing association with tea cultivation and its cultural implications. The presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is anticipated, further elevating the event’s prominence.
Economic Ambitions: Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit
Following the cultural festivities, the state will host the “Advantage Assam 2.0 – Investment and Infrastructure Summit 2025” on February 25-26 at the Veterinary Field in Khanapara, Guwahati. This summit aims to showcase Assam’s manufacturing capabilities and explore opportunities in export-oriented industries. Key focus sectors include infrastructure development, electronics and semiconductors, aerospace and defense manufacturing, renewable energy, tourism, food and beverage, fragrances and flavors, and mobility and logistics.
The summit presents a unique opportunity to forge and strengthen partnerships, offering valuable insights into the myriad possibilities available in the state for expanding business and pursuing new investments. Assam has embarked on a remarkable journey of growth and development, marked by impressive growth in its Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP).
Preparations and Anticipations
In the lead-up to these events, Chief Minister Sarma has been actively engaging with national leaders and international delegations to garner support and participation. He recently met with Prime Minister Modi and other Union ministers in New Delhi to discuss state projects and extend invitations to the summit. Additionally, a Japanese industrial delegation visited Assam, touring institutions like IIT Guwahati and Tata’s semiconductor facility, signaling potential international collaborations.
The convergence of these cultural and economic events underscores Assam’s holistic approach to development, blending the preservation of its rich heritage with ambitious economic initiatives. As the state prepares to host these landmark events, the nation watches with anticipation, eager to witness Assam’s strides on both cultural and economic fronts.
