Prime Minister Narendra Modi will soon inaugurate India’s first bamboo bio-ethanol plant in Assam. The announcement came directly from Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who described the development as a milestone for both Assam and India’s green energy mission.

This bamboo bio-ethanol plant will process 250 tonnes of bamboo each day. From that, it will produce nearly 50,000 litres of ethanol daily. Indian Oil Corporation, in partnership with other green energy firms, has developed the project under a public-private partnership model.
The state government expects the facility to create more than 700 jobs. Local farmers, in particular, will benefit from increased demand and stable prices for bamboo. Moreover, this initiative gives Assam a central role in India’s clean fuel transition.
