The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held a crucial meeting on Wednesday at its state headquarters, attended by state president Rajib Bhattacharjee, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, state general secretary (organization) Rabindra Raju, senior office bearers, and tribal leaders of the party.
The gathering centered on organizational strategies and preparations for the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections. Leaders confirmed that the BJP will contest the elections on its own strength, without forming alliances.
Key figures from the party’s tribal wing, including Bikas Debbarma, Shantana Chakma, Rebati Tripura, David Debbarma, and Amit Raksit, took part in the discussions. However, ministers Ratan Nath, Pranajit Singha Roy, Sushanta Chowdhury, and Sudhanshu Das were notably absent.
While the details of the deliberations were not made public, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha shared his views in a Facebook post, reiterating the BJP government’s priority for tribal welfare. He stated that since Prime Minister Narendra Modi assumed office in 2014, the tribal population has been among the biggest beneficiaries of government initiatives.
Highlighting cultural recognition, Dr. Saha noted that the traditional Risha received a Geographical Indication (GI) tag under the BJP government. He further mentioned that between 2019 and 2024, seven personalities from tribal communities were conferred with the Padma Shri award, reflecting the government’s commitment to honoring tribal contributions.
Expressing solidarity with party workers, the Chief Minister added, “If anyone attacks our karyakartas, we will stand beside them immediately. That is the kind of party we are, and that is what we will continue to do in the coming days.”
With the ADC elections approaching, the BJP leadership is expected to intensify outreach and campaign activities in tribal areas, projecting welfare measures and cultural recognition as major achievements.
