The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to go solo in the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections. The decision was taken at a high-level meeting held Tuesday at the party’s state headquarters in Agartala.
The meeting was chaired by BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee and attended by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, state general secretary (organization) Rabindra Raju, senior office-bearers, and tribal leaders. Prominent tribal faces including Bikas Debbarma, Shantana Chakma, Rebati Tripura, David Debbarma, and Amit Raksit were present, though senior ministers like Ratan Nath, Pranajit Singha Roy, Sushanta Chowdhury, and Sudhanshu Das were notably absent.
While the party did not disclose full details of the strategy discussions, CM Dr. Manik Saha later highlighted the BJP’s focus on tribal welfare in a Facebook post. He claimed that since Prime Minister Narendra Modi took charge in 2014, no other community has gained more than the tribals.
He pointed out that the traditional Risha received its GI tag under BJP rule and noted that seven tribal personalities were awarded the Padma Shri between 2019 and 2024.
Reaffirming solidarity with party workers, Dr. Saha said, “If anyone attacks our karyakartas, we will stand beside them immediately. That is the kind of party we are, and that is what we will continue to do.”
