According to a senior official, the governing Bharatiya Janata Party in Tripura has named Papiya Datta for the Tripura assembly election in Agartala. Currently, she is the saffron party state general secretary.
She is a well-known member of the BJP’s Mahila Morcha and will compete against Sudip Roy Barman, a sitting MLA from the Agartala seat, who is a strong contender for the Congress Party.
Sudip Roy Barman, the only Congress MLA who presently represents the Agartala constituency, won the election in a by-poll a few months ago.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has nominated candidates for each of the 55 seats that will compete during the state assembly elections on February 16.
In Tripura, there are a total of 60 Assembly seats. The deadline for submitting nominations is today, while the deadline for examination is January 31, and the deadline for withdrawing nominations is February 2.
