Bodoland FC kicked off their Durand Cup 2025 campaign in style, edging out Karbi Anglong Morning Star FC 2–1 in an electrifying Group D clash at the SAI Stadium in Kokrajhar on Thursday. The home crowd witnessed an intense battle as both teams displayed attacking football, but Bodoland FC held their nerves to secure the crucial opening win.
Strong Start by Bodoland FC
Bodoland FC, representing the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), started the game with high intensity. The players showcased aggressive pressing and quick passing, keeping Karbi Anglong on the back foot during the first 20 minutes.
The breakthrough came in the 18th minute when Bodoland’s striker, Raju Boro, converted a sharp cross into a well-placed goal. The home supporters erupted in celebration as their team drew first blood in the prestigious Durand Cup, Asia’s oldest football tournament.
Karbi Anglong Morning Star FC, however, refused to go down quietly. Their midfield began to control possession after conceding, and in the 35th minute, striker Peter Ingti leveled the score with a clinical finish. The 1–1 scoreline set the tone for an intense second half.
Decisive Moment in Second Half
The second half saw both teams pushing hard for the winner. Bodoland FC coach Rupam Basumatary made a tactical change, bringing in winger Ricky Narzary, whose pace and dribbling created immediate problems for the Karbi Anglong defense.
In the 68th minute, Bodoland FC regained the lead. Also, corner kick from Dhaneshwar Narzary found defender Saurav Daimary, who headed the ball past the goalkeeper. The 2–1 lead ignited the SAI Stadium, with the home fans chanting for their team.
Karbi Anglong attempted a late comeback, making several attacking substitutions. They almost equalized in the 82nd minute, but Bodoland goalkeeper Kamal Boro made a spectacular save, denying a close-range header.
