Crackdown on Militancy Yields Significant Haul
In a significant development, two suspected cadres affiliated with the proscribed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (Progressive), commonly known as PREPAK-Pro, were apprehended in Imphal, Manipur. The operation, conducted on Wednesday night at Pishum road under the jurisdiction of Singjamei police station in Imphal West District, resulted in the seizure of a substantial cache of arms and ammunition.
Intelligence-Led Operation
The police acted on credible intelligence indicating the presence of suspected PREPAK-Pro cadres in the Singjamei bazaar areas around 11 pm. A joint team swiftly initiated the operation, intercepting a vehicle linked to the alleged militants.
During the operation, law enforcement authorities successfully apprehended the suspects and confiscated two Light Machine Guns (LMG) along with eight magazines, one 9 mm pistol equipped with a magazine, a wireless set, and five mobile handsets from the vehicle.
The arrested individuals were later identified as Laisram Prem, 33, hailing from Thoubal Okram village, and Khumukcham Biren, 41, a resident of Nambil Phoijing village.
Legal Actions Underway
Following the arrests and the substantial seizure of weapons, the detained persons, along with the impounded vehicle, were handed over to the Singjamei police station for further legal proceedings.
