Teliamura police carried out a major operation on Sunday. They detained a young woman at Trishabari Railway Station. She allegedly carried brown sugar worth ₹7 lakh. Police sources claimed that she is the wife of a BJP leader from Khayerpur. As a result, the case has raised strong public interest.
Police Act Quickly on a Tip-Off
The police team acted on a clear tip-off. They reached the station early and waited for her train from Silchar. As soon as she arrived, officers stopped her. They searched her bags and soon found brown sugar hidden inside. The woman broke down in tears when the police confronted her.
Her marital home is in Khayerpur. Her parental home is in Surjamaninagar. Police took her into custody without delay and began the legal process.

Investigators Believe She Ran the Trade for Long
Investigators believe she trafficked brown sugar for a long time. They also suspect she earned a large amount of money through frequent smuggling. Moreover, a senior officer said her husband helped her continue the illegal trade.
“This is not her first time,” the officer said. “Parents now fear for their children because the drug is so easy to find.”
