Tipra Motha founder and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma on Thursday issued a stern warning to the Tripura government, declaring that he will approach the Supreme Court within a week if the 37 bills passed by the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) are not approved.

Speaking at a special gathering of samajpatis (community leaders) at Ujjayanta Palace on the occasion of Bijoya Dashami and Dusshera, Pradyot Kishore criticized the state government and the Governor for what he described as deliberate inaction. He alleged that the bills have been “kept in cold storage” despite being passed by the council. “If this continues, I will be compelled to move the Supreme Court by next week,” he declared.

The event at Ujjayanta Palace was marked by the traditional ‘Hasam Bujan feast’, where Pradyot Kishore invited community leaders and distributed silver coins as a symbol of unity and heritage. Stressing the importance of respecting the Tiprasa community and its traditions, he said, “Respecting our people and culture is vital for our identity. But without land rights, the Tiprasa people will never have true security.”

Pradyot further alleged that the Tiprasa community has long been deprived of land and constitutional rights due to internal divisions. He argued that disunity has weakened their collective bargaining power. “If samajpatis are not united, nothing will be achieved for the Tiprasa people,” he cautioned.

Taking a dig at the government’s recent decision to increase the honorarium of samajpatis from ₹2,000 to ₹5,000, he accused some community leaders of compromising their independence for financial benefits. He maintained that this has weakened traditional institutions. “We need unity, not division,” Pradyot said.

In his address, Pradyot Kishore also raised concerns over religious conversions, warning that such practices could threaten the cultural identity of the Tiprasa people. He appealed to the community to resist conversions and protect their traditions. “Stop this conversion and stop supporting it, otherwise our identity will vanish soon,” he urged.

The Bijoya Dashami celebration at Ujjayanta Palace thus turned into both a cultural gathering and a political statement. While celebrating tradition with the Hasam Bujan feast, Pradyot reiterated his demand for land rights, unity among the Tiprasa people, and the immediate clearance of the TTAADC bills. He made it clear that if the state government fails to act, he is prepared to escalate the matter to the apex court.
