Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for a Rs 900 crore Tripura super-speciality hospital at RK Nagar, around 20 kilometres from Agartala. The new hospital will be developed by the Manipur-based Shija Hospitals group. It marks a major milestone in Tripura’s effort to strengthen its healthcare system and attract private investment.

Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Saha said that the state government has allotted 28 acres of land for the project. He added that the hospital would not only improve medical services but also generate employment for hundreds of local residents. “We look forward to providing the best possible support to investors who wish to invest in Tripura,” he said. “This project will strengthen healthcare services and create large-scale job opportunities for our youth.”

A boost to healthcare and employment

The Chief Minister said the Tripura super-speciality hospital would become a state-of-the-art medical facility offering advanced treatment to patients across the region. Once completed, the hospital will reduce the need for people to travel outside the state for specialised care.

The Shija Hospitals group has also shown interest in establishing a medical college in Tripura. This move, according to Saha, will open new avenues for students who wish to pursue careers in medicine and allied health sciences. It will also help address the shortage of trained healthcare professionals in the region.

Saha emphasised that the state government would closely monitor the progress of the project to ensure timely completion. “We have allowed only reputed institutions with a strong track record to invest in such major healthcare ventures,” he said. “A strong monitoring system is in place to maintain transparency and ensure that the project proceeds smoothly.”

Better connectivity and infrastructure

The Chief Minister pointed out that the proposed ring road around Agartala will pass near the new hospital, which will enhance connectivity for patients and doctors. This road will make it easier for people from remote areas to access the facility. Improved road links will also help ambulances reach the hospital faster, saving precious time in medical emergencies.

In addition, a Silchar-based group has expressed interest in setting up a cancer hospital in Tripura. The government has welcomed this proposal, viewing it as another important step in developing a strong healthcare network. Saha noted that multiple investors are now showing confidence in Tripura’s growth potential.

Alongside these developments, the state capital will soon see the construction of a new flyover and a Unity Mall. These projects aim to improve urban infrastructure, reduce congestion, and promote trade and tourism. “Tripura is on a fast developmental track,” the Chief Minister said. “Our goal is to make Agartala one of the best-connected cities in the Northeast.”

Encouraging private investment

During his speech, Saha referred to the recent business summit held in Guwahati, where investors committed to invest Rs 30,000 crore across the Northeast. Out of this, Rs 15,000 crore has been earmarked for Tripura. The state’s improving infrastructure, peaceful environment, and supportive policies have made it a preferred destination for investors.

Saha said that the government’s approach focuses on partnership, transparency, and accountability. The administration is providing all necessary approvals and assistance to ensure a smooth investment process. “Tripura is now seen as a promising state for private investment,” he said. “We are determined to help every serious investor who contributes to the state’s progress.”

The Tripura super-speciality hospital project demonstrates how healthcare and investment can go hand in hand. While the project will create new medical facilities, it will also boost employment, infrastructure, and business opportunities in the surrounding areas.

Transforming Tripura’s growth story

Expressing confidence in the state’s transformation, Saha said that the government’s ongoing projects are changing Tripura’s image. The development of major infrastructure, healthcare, and tourism facilities reflects a larger vision for balanced growth. “Tripura will soon look completely transformed,” he said. “We are building not only roads and hospitals but also a stronger and more confident Tripura.”

He also mentioned that the government is developing six major tourist destinations to promote both domestic and international tourism. Once these projects are complete, they will attract more visitors and further boost the local economy.

Saha reiterated that the state’s development model combines economic progress with social welfare. By focusing on health, connectivity, and industry, Tripura aims to become a model state in the Northeast.

Strengthening the healthcare ecosystem

The Rs 900 crore Tripura super-speciality hospital will include advanced departments such as cardiology, oncology, neurology, orthopaedics, and critical care. It will offer cutting-edge treatment and advanced diagnostic facilities. The addition of a proposed medical college will further enhance the state’s healthcare ecosystem by training future doctors and specialists.

Saha highlighted that such projects will also benefit neighbouring states like Mizoram, Assam, and Manipur. Patients from across the Northeast will be able to access world-class treatment without having to travel to metro cities. This regional approach aligns with the government’s goal of promoting inclusive development across the entire Northeast.

Moreover, the project will create indirect benefits for local businesses. Small suppliers, transporters, and service providers will all gain from the economic activity generated around the hospital. The project will also boost property values and create new opportunities for housing and commerce near RK Nagar.

Vision for a modern Tripura

The Chief Minister concluded his speech with optimism about the future. He said the new hospital, the cancer institute proposal, and other infrastructure projects together mark the beginning of a new era of growth. “Tripura is ready to take a big leap forward,” he said. “With growing investment, strong leadership, and people’s support, our state will soon become a model of development.”

The foundation stone laying ceremony at RK Nagar symbolises the beginning of a transformative chapter in Tripura’s journey. The Tripura super-speciality hospital will not only offer high-quality healthcare but also serve as a model for public-private partnerships in the region.

As the state continues to attract investors and expand its infrastructure, Tripura stands on the brink of a new future — one defined by progress, opportunity, and wellbeing for all.
