The College of Fisheries, Central Agricultural University (Imphal), Lembucherra, celebrated its 28th Foundation Day on Saturday with a programme focused on academic excellence, institutional growth, innovation and alumni achievements. Higher Education Minister Kishor Barman attended the event as the chief guest.
During the programme, the college inaugurated a Boys’ Hostel Building Extension, a Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) and a Fish Seed Rearing Unit. The institution also honoured meritorious students and felicitated 39 alumni achievers from 2025-26. The event highlighted the college’s role in fisheries education, research, technology and skill development in Tripura.

College of Fisheries Celebrates 28 Years
The College of Fisheries at Lembucherra organised its 28th Foundation Day programme on Saturday. The celebration brought together government representatives, university officials, faculty members, students and alumni.
Dean of the College of Fisheries, Prof. Arun Bhai Patel, welcomed the dignitaries and participants. He also expressed gratitude to everyone who supported the organisation of the event.
Meanwhile, the programme highlighted the institution’s development and its contribution to fisheries education and research.
New Fisheries Facilities Inaugurated
As part of the Foundation Day celebrations, the college inaugurated three important facilities.
These included the Boys’ Hostel Building Extension, a Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) and a Fish Seed Rearing Unit.
The college also released teaching manuals and technology leaflets. These materials aim to support academic learning and provide information related to fisheries technologies.
The new facilities can further support practical training and technical education for students. Moreover, they can strengthen the college’s focus on modern aquaculture practices.
Kishor Barman Highlights Fisheries Education
Minister for Higher Education, Panchayat and General Administration (Political), Kishor Barman, attended the programme as chief guest.
In his address, Barman highlighted the importance of the fisheries sector in the country’s development. He said the College of Fisheries has the potential to become an important education, skill and knowledge hub for Tripura.
Furthermore, he stressed the need to connect classroom education with real-world challenges.
According to Barman, stronger links among research, technology, innovation and societal needs can help students respond to emerging challenges in the fisheries sector.
Students Receive Awards
The Foundation Day programme also recognised student achievements.
The college presented trophies to winners of Annual College Week–2026 in literary, sports, cultural and overall categories.
In addition, the institution presented awards for Student of the Year and Academic Excellence.
The college also honoured meritorious students through the Prof. J.R. Dhanze Memorial Awards. The awards went to the top two rank holders in ICAR AIEEA (PG)-2026.
S. Dinesh Singh Secures All India Rank 1
A major highlight of the programme was the recognition of S. Dinesh Singh.
Singh secured All India Rank 1 in Fisheries Science in the ICAR AIEEA (PG)-2026 examination. The college specially acknowledged his achievement during the Foundation Day programme.
His success added another academic milestone to the institution’s celebration.
39 Alumni Achievers Felicitated
The college also honoured 39 alumni achievers from 2025-26.
The alumni received recognition for their professional contributions and achievements in different fields.
The felicitation programme highlighted the contribution of former students to their respective professions. It also reflected the institution’s continuing connection with its alumni community.
Guests Attend Foundation Day Programme
Prof. Ratan Kumar Saha, Vice-Chancellor of Techno India University, Tripura, and S. Prabhu, IFS, Special Secretary of the Animal Resources Development Department, attended the programme as guests of honour.
Prof. Debashish Sen, Principal of the College of Agriculture, Lembucherra, attended as the special guest.
The programme also acknowledged the support and guidance of Central Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Anupam Mishra.

Prof. Arun Bhai Patel thanked the dignitaries, faculty members, students, alumni and others who contributed to the Foundation Day programme.
Subsequently, Students Welfare Officer M. Sanju Singh delivered the vote of thanks.
