Agartala, Tripura: Tensions have emerged in Agartala after members of the Buddhist community strongly objected to the alleged use of a sacred image of Gautama Buddha at the entrance of a bar named “Happiest Hour.”

The establishment, reportedly located on the top floor of the Directorate of Urban Development Department building in the city, has come under criticism for what community members describe as an inappropriate and disrespectful display of a revered religious symbol.

Representatives of the Buddhist community expressed deep concern over the matter, stating that such usage hurts the sentiments of millions who revere Lord Buddha as a symbol of peace, wisdom, and enlightenment. They emphasized that sacred religious imagery should not be placed in commercial environments, particularly in venues like bars, where its presence may be considered offensive.

The community has called upon Manik Saha, the Chief Minister of Tripura, to take immediate legal action against the owners of “Happiest Hour” and ensure that similar incidents do not occur in the future.

In addition, community leaders have demanded the immediate removal of the image and a formal public apology from the management. A deadline of two days has reportedly been set for compliance, failing which members have warned of organizing a protest rally in Agartala.
