A 34-year-old man lost his life in a tragic road accident in Agartala on Thursday afternoon after a speeding tripper vehicle allegedly hit his bicycle from behind. The incident occurred in the Maylakhola area, north of Durga Chaumuhuni.
According to police officials from the Durga Chaumuhuni outpost, the deceased has been identified as Deepak Deb (34), a resident of the Bhubonban area. He was riding his bicycle toward Durga Chaumuhuni along the Barjala road when the speeding vehicle struck him from behind.

Victim Declared Dead at IGM Hospital
The impact threw Deepak Deb onto the road, leaving him critically injured and unconscious. Local residents rushed to help and informed the police. Officers quickly arranged for his transportation to IGM Hospital in Agartala.
However, doctors at IGM Hospital declared him “dead on arrival,” confirming that he had succumbed to his injuries before receiving medical treatment.
Driver Detained by Police
Following the accident, angry locals caught hold of the tripper vehicle driver at the scene. Eyewitnesses said that residents confronted the driver before handing him over to the police. Authorities have since taken the driver into custody and initiated further investigation into the incident.
Police officials stated that they are examining the circumstances leading to the accident. They have not yet released additional details about the victim or the driver. Investigators are expected to register a case and proceed according to legal procedures.

The sudden death of the young cyclist has cast a pall of gloom over the Maylakhola and Durga Chaumuhuni areas. Residents expressed shock and sorrow over the fatal mishap, highlighting concerns about reckless driving and speeding vehicles on busy city roads.
