Minister Bikash Debbarma today inaugurated the commencement of classes at the newly established 480-seated Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) in Rupaichari under the Rupaichari R.D. Block, South Tripura District. The event marked a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to strengthen tribal education and create modern learning opportunities for students from indigenous communities.
The EMRS at Rupaichari is part of the government’s broader initiative to expand residential education facilities in tribal areas. While only six EMRS institutions were set up in Tripura over the past 25 years, the last eight years have witnessed the addition of six more, reflecting the accelerated pace of development under the Double Engine Government. The establishment of these schools demonstrates the state’s growing focus on inclusive education and long-term empowerment of tribal youth.
Minister Bikash Debbarma, addressing the gathering, highlighted that the present government is not only focused on creating infrastructure but is also working towards holistic development of tribal students. He emphasized that these schools provide a competitive learning environment, modern residential facilities, and quality education, all designed to prepare students for future opportunities.
The Minister further noted that the EMRS initiative is a direct reflection of the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has consistently advocated for “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas.” According to officials, the aim of these institutions is not just to impart knowledge but to nurture the talents and aspirations of students, ensuring they can compete at par with others at the national level.
The inauguration at Rupaichari was attended by community members, education officials, and local leaders who expressed optimism that the new facility will bring transformative changes in the district. Parents and guardians of students also welcomed the initiative, acknowledging the importance of providing their children with a structured environment that combines academic excellence with cultural values.
Officials explained that the EMRS framework is designed to provide quality education up to senior secondary level, focusing on science, commerce, and humanities streams, along with extracurricular development. These institutions also aim to preserve and promote tribal heritage while equipping students with modern skills.
The launch of the Rupaichari EMRS is expected to reduce educational disparities and open new opportunities for students from remote tribal regions of South Tripura. With 480 seats available, the school will cater to a large number of students who will now have access to residential education closer to home.
The state government reaffirmed its commitment to expanding similar facilities across Tripura as part of its roadmap for a developed and educated society. This development is seen as a crucial step towards achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, ensuring that education becomes the cornerstone of progress for every community.
