The state government of Tripura has been making concerted efforts towards fostering industrial development, aligning with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s goal of achieving self-reliance, as emphasized by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha. This strategic focus on industrial growth is aimed at building an “Atmanirbhar Tripura,” a self-sufficient and self-reliant state.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha conveyed this perspective while addressing the inaugural session of a four-day Roundtable on Forest and Agro-Forest Value Chain Development. The event, organized by the Industries and Commerce department, took place at a private hotel in Agartala, capturing the attention of stakeholders and experts. The session commenced on a significant note, underscoring the state’s dedication to economic growth driven by forest resources and related industries.
One of the key focal points of the discussion was the upcoming 3rd International Buyer-Seller Meet of Agarwood Products. This event holds substantial importance as it aligns with Tripura’s vision of transitioning towards a “bullion economy” from Agarwood in the coming five years. Scheduled to be held in Agartala from October 5 to 7, this meet aims to chart a course for Agarwood’s role in the state’s economic prosperity.
In his address, the Chief Minister emphasized the critical role played by forest resources and forest-based industries in the economic landscape of the state. Dr. Manik Saha highlighted the inherent potential within the Agar sector and shed light on the proactive measures taken by the state government to tap into this potential. In July 2021, the government introduced an Agarwood Policy, demonstrating its commitment to nurturing and leveraging the Agarwood industry. Furthermore, the Central Government’s allocation of export quotas for Agar products adds to the conducive environment for investors to engage in the Agar-based industry in Tripura.
Connectivity development emerged as another noteworthy aspect of Tripura’s progress under the leadership of the Chief Minister. He pointed out the significant improvements in connectivity that the state has witnessed over the past few years. These enhancements in infrastructure play a crucial role in attracting investments, facilitating trade, and fostering overall development.
Echoing the importance of preserving the state’s rich natural heritage, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha underscored the potential of eco-tourism as a driver of economic growth. He shared that a dedicated entity, Tripura Nature Trails and Resource Limited, has been entrusted with the responsibility of developing eco-tourism at Sepahijala and Gomati wildlife sanctuaries. This move aligns with the global trend of sustainable tourism, offering both environmental preservation and economic benefits.
The event was graced by the presence of key dignitaries and officials. Minister for Industries and Commerce, Santana Chakma, highlighted the government’s dedication to fostering a conducive environment for industrial growth. Principal Secretary of Industries and Commerce, K.S. Sethi, and Addl. PCCF V.G. Jenner also lent their insights, emphasizing the collaborative efforts in realizing the vision of Atmanirbhar Tripura. The Director of Industries and Commerce, Viswashree B., along with other stakeholders, contributed to the discourse surrounding the state’s industrial development and future prospects.
The state government’s resolute commitment to industrial development, as exemplified by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha’s remarks, sets a promising course for Tripura’s economic trajectory. The emphasis on forest resources, Agarwood industry, connectivity, and eco-tourism showcases a well-rounded approach towards holistic development. As the state gears up for the 3rd International Buyer-Seller Meet of Agarwood Products, the roadmap for transforming Tripura into a self-reliant and prosperous state comes into sharper focus. The collaborative efforts of government bodies, industry stakeholders, and officials pave the way for realizing the vision of an Atmanirbhar Tripura.
