Two tragic incidents unfolded in Belonia on Wednesday, and together they left the community in deep shock. As a result, police launched separate investigations into both cases.
Fire Service Driver Found Dead in Rented House
The first incident occurred on Wednesday morning near the Belonia jail. Police found Bappa Rakshit, a driver with the Belonia Fire Service, hanging inside his rented room. Soon after, officers learned that Rakshit had spent the previous night alone. Therefore, they suspect he died by suicide.
His wife later alleged that growing financial pressure and increasing loan instalments pushed him into severe stress. Moments after hearing the news, Rakshit’s wife and two daughters rushed from Agartala to Belonia Hospital. The hospital staff kept his body in the morgue, and the family broke down as soon as they arrived. Meanwhile, police continued their investigation and said they would verify every claim.

Local residents quickly took him to a nearby hospital. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival. Patari worked as a house painter and lived in Garjonia village under Barpathari Lakshmipur Panchayat.
After the accident, police started searching for the truck involved in the hit-and-run. They also registered a case and assured strict action once they identify the driver. Furthermore, officers said the investigation would continue until they trace the vehicle.
