Doctors and health workers posted at the Trauma Care Centre of Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital (GBP Hospital) in Agartala have alleged that they have not received salaries for the past four months. The prolonged delay has pushed many into financial hardship, prompting staff to warn of an indefinite strike if authorities fail to clear their dues immediately.

Staff Voice Distress Over Non-Payment
Speaking to media on Tuesday, several doctors and paramedical staff from the Trauma Care Department said they continue to handle critical and emergency cases round the clock despite not receiving their remuneration.
They stated that the delay has made it difficult to manage essential household expenses, including rent, loan repayments, children’s education, and medical bills.
“We are treating trauma and emergency patients every day with full dedication. However, our own families are suffering. Four months without salary has pushed many of us to the brink,” said one of the doctors.
Health workers echoed similar concerns. They said many staff members now struggle to meet even basic daily expenses. Some claimed they have borrowed money to sustain their families while continuing hospital duties.
Mental and Financial Strain
Staff members described the situation as both mentally and financially exhausting. The Trauma Care Centre is one of the most critical departments of the hospital, handling accident victims, emergency surgeries, and serious referrals from across the state.
“We work in a department where every minute counts. Lives depend on timely intervention. Yet, our salaries have been pending for months,” said a paramedical worker.
Several employees said the uncertainty has affected morale. They stressed that while patient care remains their top priority, they cannot ignore their own financial survival.
Warning of Indefinite Strike
The aggrieved staff collectively appealed to the hospital administration and the state health department to intervene without further delay. They demanded immediate release of pending salaries.
“If no concrete steps are taken immediately, we will have no option but to go on an indefinite strike,” a senior doctor warned. He added that such a decision would be taken with reluctance but may become unavoidable.
