Former Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi (Retd) will attend the ‘Namami Bharatam’ programme in Guwahati on September 25. He will attend the event as the chief guest.
The programme will mark the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram, India’s national song. Organisers will hold the event at the Shrimanta Sankardev International Auditorium at Kalakshetra in Guwahati.
The event will feature a large-scale collective recital of Vande Mataram. Vidya Bharati and Shiksha Samiti Assam will organise the programme.
Event to Mark 150 Years of Vande Mataram
The organisers have planned the programme as part of a year-long nationwide observance of 150 years of Vande Mataram.
Vidya Bharati’s official programme details state that participants across schools and institutions will sing the complete song together on September 25. The common singing time has been set for 11 am.
The initiative aims to bring students, teachers, parents and members of the wider community together. Organisers also want to highlight the historical and cultural significance of the national song.
Mass Recitation Planned Across India
The Guwahati event forms part of a larger nationwide programme. Organisers have planned collective singing at thousands of locations across India.
According to reports, the nationwide initiative could involve more than 25,000 locations and over one crore participants. The organisers have also submitted the event for validation by the Asia Book of Records and the India Book of Records.
Participating institutions have been asked to follow specific guidelines. They must also document their programmes through photographs, videos and participant details.
Vidya Bharati Organises the Programme
Vidya Bharati and its affiliated organisations have taken the lead in organising the ‘Namami Bharatam’ initiative.
The organisation has already conducted several activities in Assam ahead of the September 25 programme. In August, Vidya Bharati Purvottar Kshetra released special posters in Guwahati to mark 150 years of Vande Mataram.
Organisers have described the programme as an effort to connect younger generations with the history and cultural significance of Vande Mataram.
Gen Dwivedi’s First Public Engagement in Northeast
The Guwahati programme will also mark General Upendra Dwivedi’s first public engagement in the Northeast, according to ANI.
His participation has attracted attention because of his former position as Chief of Army Staff. Organisers have described his presence as an important part of the Guwahati programme.
The event is expected to bring together students, educators, civic participants and members of different communities.
Assam Joins Nationwide Observance
Several parts of Assam have also started preparations for the nationwide singing programme.
Dima Hasao, for example, plans to involve students and teachers from Saraswati Vidya Mandirs along with parents and members of the public. The district will participate in the collective singing scheduled for September 25.
Such programmes will take place across different parts of the Northeast. The organisers hope that schools and institutions will encourage broad participation.
