Saurashtra, India – In a moment of pride for the entire nation, Girganga Parivar Trust, an organization dedicated to water conservation and environmental service in Saurashtra, has been honored with the prestigious Global CSR & ESG Awards 2025. The award ceremony took place in Delhi, recognizing the trust’s consistent and impactful efforts in sustainable water management and community-driven environmental initiatives.
The Global CSR & ESG Awards 2025 celebrate organizations from around the world that demonstrate outstanding commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) practices. Receiving this award places Girganga Parivar Trust among the most exemplary organizations globally, highlighting the effectiveness of its grassroots initiatives in addressing water scarcity.
President of the Trust, Mr. Dilip Sakhiya, who is also known as the waterman of India, expressed his gratitude, dedicating the award to people of Saurashtra. He acknowledged the farmers, villagers, and youth who actively participate in water conservation projects, saying, “This award is a tribute to the collective hard work and dedication of our community. Together, we have shown that sustainable change is possible.”
For several years, Girganga Parivar Trust has been actively involved in water conservation efforts across Saurashtra. With the construction of more than 275 check dams and over 1200 recharge bores, the Trust has made significant strides in revitalizing water sources, particularly in regions facing acute water shortages. These projects have been implemented with robust community participation and CSR support, ensuring sustainable and long-lasting impact.
One of the standout achievements of the Trust is its PPT Model (Public, Private, and Trust collaboration). Under this innovative approach, the Trust partners with corporations that provide essential machinery such as earthmovers, JCBs, and excavators through CSR contributions. The local communities, in turn, handle fuel, labor, and minor maintenance, fostering a sense of ownership and shared responsibility. This model has accelerated the development of water conservation infrastructure at minimal cost, directly benefitting agriculture and biodiversity.
In a move that further cements its reputation, Girganga Parivar Trust recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Water, Government of India. This historic agreement marks the Trust as the sole organization in the country to partner with the Ministry for large-scale water conservation initiatives. The MOU will facilitate the development of sustainable water systems, particularly in the water-deficient regions of Gujarat, through methods such as check dams, recharge bores, pit digging, and extensive rainwater harvesting.
The collaboration also aims to enhance groundwater recharge and support agricultural sustainability, creating self-reliance among farmers. Through joint efforts, both the Trust and the Ministry aim to implement comprehensive water management programs, including public awareness campaigns to encourage responsible water usage.
Girganga Parivar Trust’s work has not only garnered international recognition but has also set a precedent for public-private partnership in environmental conservation. The PPT Model exemplifies how collective efforts from corporates, local communities, and non-profits can lead to substantial ecological improvements. Inspired by this success, the Trust has set an ambitious goal to construct 11,111 check dams, aiming to secure water availability for farmers, wildlife, and future generations.
The Trust’s vision aligns with the principle of “Machine Aapki, Mehnat Hamari, Jal Sanrakshan Sabka!” (Your Machine, Our Efforts, Water Conservation for All). By involving the community at every stage, the initiative fosters a spirit of collective responsibility.
Receiving the Global CSR & ESG Awards 2025 has elevated Girganga Parivar Trust’s profile on both national and international platforms. It stands as a symbol of how grassroots activism, when combined with corporate and government collaboration, can create sustainable environmental solutions.
The Trust aims to continue its mission with even greater determination, driven by the support of the people and guided by the vision of a water-secure Saurashtra. As global challenges related to water scarcity grow, the model established by Girganga Parivar Trust serves as a replicable blueprint for communities worldwide.
