A GMCH explosion inside an intensive care ward in Guwahati triggered an emergency evacuation late Sunday night after a medical monitor reportedly burst into flames. Ten critically ill patients were moved from the affected Step-Down ICU to the General ICU as smoke spread through the area.
The incident occurred at around 11:50 pm in the Medical ITU-2 ward of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). Hospital authorities later clarified that a patient’s death reported around the same time was not caused by the fire.

According to preliminary information, a short circuit caused a medical monitor to explode, followed by a fire inside the intensive care area. Hospital staff responded quickly and shifted patients from the affected ward.
