Tripura’s Gomati district has earned national recognition after receiving the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration. The award, announced on April 21, 2025, celebrates the district’s outstanding efforts in the category of ‘Holistic Development of Districts.’ This achievement highlights the consistent and innovative governance that has transformed the region into a model of balanced growth and citizen-focused development.
Officials from Gomati district travelled to New Delhi to attend the award ceremony, where they received the honour from the Prime Minister. The recognition has filled the state with pride as Tripura emerges on the national stage for administrative excellence. The Prime Minister acknowledged Gomati’s progressive work in streamlining governance and strengthening public welfare through efficient service delivery, community engagement, and inclusive growth strategies.
The award-winning initiatives included improvements in healthcare access, sanitation, education quality, and women empowerment schemes. The district administration built partnerships with local communities to identify grassroots challenges and design focused solutions. This approach helped create self-sustaining projects in agriculture, micro-enterprise, digital inclusion, and school infrastructure upgrades, boosting both economic prospects and social equity.
District Magistrate Tarit Kanti Chakma received praise for his leadership and hands-on governance. He motivated the administrative team to pursue impactful results rather than focusing solely on targets. Under his guidance, officials used real-time data to track service delivery, resolve citizen grievances faster, and expand access to schemes like Ayushman Bharat, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, and Jal Jeevan Mission.
Government departments worked together to integrate services at the grassroots level. Health workers collaborated with Anganwadi centres, school teachers supported community awareness drives, and revenue officials ensured transparency in land and subsidy-related schemes. This inter-departmental coordination helped reduce delays, eliminate corruption, and raise public trust in governance.
Women in the district gained from targeted initiatives that promoted self-help groups, digital banking awareness, and skill-building programs. These efforts brought rural women into economic activities while also educating them about their rights and entitlements. The administration encouraged the use of local talent and traditional knowledge in various schemes, blending modern tools with cultural relevance.
The district also leveraged technology to simplify governance. Officials implemented mobile apps for service tracking and geo-tagged infrastructure projects to prevent misuse of funds. Village-level volunteers helped citizens access e-governance portals, improving transparency and inclusivity across sectors. As a result, thousands of residents benefited from quicker resolution of complaints and timely distribution of benefits.
The district’s education reforms earned special appreciation during the selection process. Officials upgraded classrooms, trained teachers in digital learning, and ensured steady attendance even in remote areas. A sense of ownership was built among students and parents, encouraging long-term engagement with schools. Literacy rates have shown an upward trend, especially among girls, thanks to targeted interventions and regular monitoring.
Senior officials in Agartala have hailed the recognition as a milestone for Tripura’s governance vision. They said Gomati’s success would inspire other districts to adopt people-centric approaches and measure success in terms of sustainable impact. The Chief Minister congratulated the Gomati team, stating that this honour validates the state’s continued focus on reaching the last mile and leaving no one behind.
Local residents in Gomati have also joined the celebration. Community leaders said they feel proud to see their efforts recognized alongside the administration’s work. Many expressed hope that this momentum will lead to more support for rural infrastructure, better roads, improved healthcare access, and youth employment.
The Prime Minister’s Award has added national visibility to Gomati’s achievements, but the district administration remains focused on the ground. Officials stated that the recognition is not the final goal but rather a motivation to raise the bar higher. As Gomati sets new standards in inclusive and transparent administration, Tripura’s governance model is gaining attention for its promise and potential.
