High-speed motorbikes have turned into a major threat in Tripura. The dangers became clear again on Tuesday afternoon when a violent crash killed three young men in West Pilak Colony under Jolaibari police station in South Tripura. Another youth suffered severe injuries and is fighting for his life.
Crash on the Jolaibari–Belonia Route
The accident took place around 1 PM on the alternative national highway that links Jolaibari with Belonia. Many riders use this shorter route, and overspeeding has become common.
Police said two motorbikes were racing down the road from opposite directions. One bike was heading toward Belonia and the other toward Jolaibari. Both drivers rode at high speed and lost control. The bikes collided head-on. The impact threw the riders and their pillion passengers onto the road.

Three Young Riders Die Immediately
Doctors at the Jolaibari Community Health Centre confirmed the deaths of Mukesh Tripura (16), Biplab Shil Sharma (23), and Prasanna Datta (28). All three suffered multiple head and body injuries. They died before the medical team could start treatment.
The pillion rider who was traveling with Mukesh survived but remains in critical condition. Police have not yet identified him. Doctors referred him to GBP Hospital in Agartala for emergency treatment.
Police Verify Victims’ Backgrounds
According to early reports, Biplab Shil Sharma lived in Madhya Pilak, and Prasanna Datta lived in West Pilak. Police are still trying to confirm the address of Mukesh and the injured pillion rider. Officers said none of the riders wore helmets at the time of the crash. This likely made the injuries far worse.
Investigation Begins
Jolaibari police registered a case of unnatural death due to the road accident. Investigators are checking whether reckless driving or road conditions caused the crash. Police are also collecting eyewitness statements and scanning nearby CCTV footage.
Officers stressed the need for stricter speed control. They said overspeeding is now one of the biggest causes of fatal crashes in South Tripura.
Locals Demand Safety Measures
Residents of West Pilak expressed shock after the accident. Many said young riders often use the route like a racing track. They demanded speed breakers, police checkpoints, and warning signs to prevent further tragedies.
The community now waits for updates on the injured youth while the families of the victims grieve their sudden loss. The crash highlights, once again, the rising danger of reckless riding on Tripura’s roads.
