Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated a state-of-the-art super-speciality hospital in Guwahati, marking a significant leap in the region’s healthcare development. The new medical facility is equipped with cutting-edge technology and will cater to a wide range of complex health conditions.
Located in the heart of the city, this hospital is part of the Assam government’s mission to make advanced healthcare accessible to every citizen. Sarma highlighted that this project is not just about infrastructure but also about saving lives and reducing the state’s medical migration.

A Milestone in Assam’s Health Sector
The super-speciality hospital in Guwahati has been designed to meet the growing medical demands of the state. It includes departments for cardiology, neurology, oncology, nephrology, and organ transplantation. These services will reduce the dependence on out-of-state treatment, especially in critical cases.
Sarma said the facility will not only serve residents of Guwahati but also patients from across Assam and the Northeast. The hospital’s location ensures ease of access for people from both urban and rural areas.
Affordable and Advanced Care for All
Affordability remains a key focus of the new hospital. Sarma assured that despite its advanced infrastructure, the government will ensure that the treatment cost remains within reach for common citizens.
The hospital is integrated with the Ayushman Bharat scheme, ensuring cashless treatment for eligible families. Moreover, a dedicated wing will offer free consultation and subsidised care for economically disadvantaged groups.
The CM also informed that state government employees and pensioners would benefit from a separate scheme for medical coverage within this hospital.
Employment and Medical Training Opportunities
The opening of the super-speciality hospital in Guwahati brings not only healthcare services but also employment and skill development opportunities. Over 500 medical professionals, including doctors, nurses, and technicians, have been recruited.
In addition to full-time staff, the hospital will serve as a training ground for postgraduate students and paramedical trainees. Sarma noted that the government will soon sign an MoU with leading medical institutes to bring in experienced specialists for short-term rotations.
Public-Private Partnership Model
This hospital has been developed under a hybrid Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The government provided the land and core funding, while private players contributed to technological upgrades, diagnostics, and maintenance.
The PPP model will ensure high service quality, while the state maintains regulatory oversight. Sarma highlighted that this partnership will create a sustainable model for future healthcare projects across Assam.
Digital Health Integration and Facilities
The hospital has integrated digital health systems to enhance patient experience. From online appointment booking to digital health records, the system will minimize waiting times and ensure continuity in treatment.
Advanced operation theatres, fully equipped ICUs, emergency trauma care, dialysis units, and telemedicine hubs have been established. Additionally, an organ transplant unit will be operational soon, with kidney and liver transplants scheduled to begin later this year.
Local Reaction and Community Support
Citizens welcomed the inauguration with enthusiasm. Patient welfare groups and resident associations have praised the move, especially in light of limited access to high-end care in the past.
Many residents noted that they had to travel to Delhi or Kolkata for critical treatments. With the opening of the super-speciality hospital in Guwahati, families can now stay closer to home during difficult medical situations.

The new hospital is part of the state’s long-term healthcare roadmap, “Healthy Assam Vision 2025.” Under this plan, the government aims to create 10 such super-speciality hospitals across the state in the next five years.
Sarma stated that improving healthcare access and quality is one of his administration’s highest priorities. In addition to physical infrastructure, the focus will remain on human resources, digital health, and preventive care.
Mobile health units, telemedicine services, and rural health awareness campaigns will also continue to complement these initiatives.
CM’s Call to Citizens and Medical Fraternity
During the launch, Sarma urged the citizens of Assam to take full advantage of the new facility. He also called on the medical fraternity to dedicate themselves to compassionate service.
The Chief Minister assured that the government would remain responsive to feedback and ensure regular evaluation of hospital operations.
He ended his speech with a promise to expand healthcare access even further, saying, “We want Assam to lead the Northeast not just in roads or economy, but also in health outcomes.”
