Kokrajhar, Aug 25, 2025 – With the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections around the corner, political campaigns have gained momentum across the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, BTC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pramod Boro, and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) chief Hagrama Mohilary addressed large gatherings, setting the stage for an intense political contest.

BJP Pushes for Development and Stability

Addressing a massive rally in Kokrajhar, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted the BJP’s commitment to development and peace in the BTR. He stressed that the government’s welfare schemes had brought visible progress to the region, particularly in education, health, and infrastructure.

Sarma accused opposition parties of misleading people with “false promises.” He urged voters to support the BJP for long-term stability and inclusive growth. “Bodoland is moving forward, and our government is ensuring equal opportunities for all communities,” Sarma said.

UPPL Showcases Local Leadership

UPPL chief and BTC CEM Pramod Boro also led a series of rallies, focusing on the council’s achievements under his leadership. He pointed to infrastructure development, educational reforms, and employment opportunities as key highlights of his tenure.

Boro framed the upcoming election as a battle between progress and regression. “Our government has delivered change on the ground. People can see roads, schools, and healthcare improving. This election will decide whether we continue this journey,” he told supporters.

The UPPL, which governs the BTC in alliance with the BJP, is seeking to consolidate its support base while countering strong challenges from rivals.

BPF Seeks Comeback with Strong Base

Meanwhile, BPF chief Hagrama Mohilary drew massive crowds as he attempted to reclaim lost ground in the BTR. Once the dominant force in Bodoland politics, the BPF is projecting itself as the only party that can safeguard the rights and identity of the Bodo community.

Mohilary criticized both the BJP and UPPL, accusing them of neglecting grassroots issues. “People are struggling, yet the ruling parties are busy in speeches. Only the BPF understands the pulse of Bodoland,” Mohilary said.

Heated Exchanges and Political Barbs BTC

The campaign trail has been marked by sharp exchanges between leaders. While the BJP and UPPL stress their alliance’s achievements, the BPF has countered with promises of stronger representation and welfare measures for marginalized groups.

Analysts note that the fight is intensifying, with each party trying to secure an edge before polling day. Local dynamics, including ethnic and community-based support, are expected to play a crucial role in determining results.

Security and Election Preparedness BTC

As political activity intensifies, the Election Commission and district administration have stepped up security measures in the region. Officials said efforts are underway to ensure peaceful polling, given the history of political tension in the BTR.

Observers believe that voter turnout could be high, as public interest in the election remains strong. The BTC election outcome will also have implications for state-level politics in Assam.

The Road Ahead

The coming days are expected to witness more rallies, campaigns, and grassroots mobilization as parties prepare for the final phase of electioneering. With development, identity, and governance at the heart of the debate, the BTC elections are shaping up to be a decisive contest.
