In a significant stride towards enhancing connectivity and infrastructure, the tender for the much-anticipated bridge over the Brahmaputra River, connecting Guwahati with Palasbari, has been awarded to Larson & Toubro (L&T). Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced this major development during a press conference, heralding a new chapter in the state’s transportation landscape.
During the announcement, CM Sarma expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I want to share good news today. The tender for the Guwahati-Palasbari bridge has been handed over to L&T. They have already been given the letter for the same.” This decision follows the foundation stone laying ceremony performed by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi last year during Bihu, marking the commencement of the ambitious 12.2 km bridge project across the Brahmaputra.
The bridge, connecting Palasbari and Sualkuchi, holds strategic importance as it is expected to boost Assam’s heritage textile center. With this key development, the state aims to fortify its cultural and economic ties, promoting accessibility to the heart of Assam’s textile heritage.
Taking to the social media platform X, CM Sarma shared further insights into the project, revealing the government’s commitment to completing the construction within a 48-month timeframe. “I am happy to share that the project has reached a new milestone. Larsen & Toubro have been awarded the contract. We aim to complete construction in 48 months,” he mentioned.
Highlighting the broader impact on Assam’s connectivity, CM Sarma stated, “Connectivity in Assam has received a huge impetus under Hon’ble PM. Between 1947 to 2014, we had only 3 bridges across the Brahmaputra. Today, we have 6 bridges already constructed, and 6 more are underway.” This underscores the government’s commitment to infrastructure development and fostering regional connectivity.
The awarding of the tender to Larson & Toubro not only signifies a major step forward in the Guwahati-Palasbari bridge project but also reflects the state’s dedication to progress and modernization. As construction commences, the bridge is poised to become a vital link, fostering economic growth, cultural exchange, and accessibility in the vibrant state of Assam.
