Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has congratulated Olympic medallist Mirabai Chanu and Wushu athlete Roshibina Devi for winning silver medals at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan. He urged the two athletes to continue inspiring young sportspersons across the country, particularly in Manipur.

The Chief Minister met both athletes at his Secretariat in Mantripukhri on October 1. He praised their dedication, discipline and perseverance, saying their achievements had brought pride to Manipur and India.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister extended his congratulations to Mirabai Chanu and Roshibina Devi for their performances at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026.

Mirabai Chanu Wins Silver in Women’s 49kg Weightlifting

Mirabai Chanu secured silver in the women’s 49kg weightlifting event at the Asian Games.

She recorded a combined lift of 198kg, comprising 87kg in the snatch and 111kg in the clean and jerk.

Her medal ended India’s 28-year wait for an Asian Games medal in weightlifting. The achievement added another major milestone to her international sporting career.

Chanu has represented India at several major international competitions and won a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. Her latest Asian Games performance has further strengthened her position among India’s prominent weightlifters.

Roshibina Devi Extends Asian Games Medal Record

Wushu Sanda fighter Naorem Roshibina Devi won silver in the women’s 60kg category.

Her latest medal marked her third consecutive Asian Games podium finish. She won bronze at the 2018 Asian Games and silver at the 2023 edition.

With the 2026 silver, Roshibina became the first Indian Wushu athlete to win medals at three successive Asian Games editions.

Her achievement also highlights Manipur’s contribution to India’s martial arts and combat sports tradition.
