In a grand ceremony held at the Palace Auditorium of Manipur State Film Development Society in Imphal, Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey inaugurated the much-anticipated North East India Film Festival (NEIFF 2024) on Sunday.

Featuring a diverse lineup, the festival will spotlight a total of eight films, with six hailing from Assam and one each from the host state Manipur and Meghalaya. The festival brings more than just accolades; it offers cash awards in eight distinct categories, including Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, and the coveted Special Jury Award. This cinematic celebration is organized by THOUNA, Manipur, in collaboration with DIPR, Art and Culture, and Film Forum, Manipur. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Govt. of India, provides vital sponsorship.
NEIFF 2024 serves as a unique platform for filmmakers to engage in the exchange of artistic and technical insights into the world of filmmaking specific to the northeastern region.
Addressing the attendees during the inaugural function, Governor Anusuiya Uikey expressed her belief in the potential of North East India to produce high-quality films that contribute to societal improvement during this critical period of social change.
Highlighting the growth of Manipuri cinema, she acknowledged its journey from the early days of 35 mm black and white films to the contemporary era, where videos play a pivotal role in the realm of Manipuri cinema.
The NE India Film Festival 2024 is scheduled to run until the 7th of this month, providing ample time for audiences to immerse themselves in the cinematic richness of the northeastern states.
