Manipur Police have arrested four people, including the husband and mother-in-law of a 27-year-old woman, in connection with her disappearance and murder in Imphal West district.
Police confirmed the arrests on Monday following an investigation into the death of Khaidem (O) Chaoba Devi, a resident of Wangoi Mamang Khaidem.
Woman Reported Missing on December 26
According to officials, Chaoba Devi went missing on December 26. Her family lodged a missing complaint the same day after they failed to trace her whereabouts.
The next morning, police recovered her body under suspicious circumstances from inside the Ibudhou Pakhangba compound at Thiyam Leishangkhong, under Wangoi police station in Imphal West district.

Four Accused Taken Into Custody
Police identified the arrested persons as Khaidem Nareshor Singh (29), the husband of the deceased, and Khaidem (O) Indira (47), her mother-in-law.
The other two accused include Moirangthem Dhanajit Singh (28) of Langathel Laikhom Bazar and Kananbala Devi alias Dhaneshwori (41) of Yairipok Wangkhem.
Officials stated that all four were taken into custody after questioning and verification of evidence.
Family Alleges Foul Play
Soon after police recovered the body, family members of the deceased alleged foul play. They accused the husband and others of being directly involved in her death.
The allegations triggered tension in the locality. Angry relatives and local residents reportedly vandalised the husband’s house following the incident.
Police Restore Order
Police deployed additional forces to control the situation and prevent further unrest. Officials dispersed the crowd and restored normalcy in the area.
Authorities urged the public to remain calm and allow the investigation to proceed without interference.
Investigation Underway
Senior police officials confirmed that a detailed investigation is in progress. Teams are reconstructing the sequence of events leading to the woman’s disappearance and death.
Investigators are examining witness statements, forensic reports, and other material evidence. Police said they are also verifying the role of each accused in the case.
Officials assured that they will take strict legal action based on the findings of the investigation.
