Cough Syrup Hidden Inside ORS Cartons

During the search, the police recovered 12,600 bottles of banned cough syrup. The smugglers had concealed the bottles inside 252 cartons of Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) packets.

Officials said the accused used the medical supplies as camouflage to avoid suspicion during transport. The team seized the entire consignment on the spot.

Shipment Linked to Interstate Drug Network

Initial investigation revealed that the consignment originated in West Bengal. The smugglers were transporting it towards Agartala, police sources said.

Investigators suspect the involvement of an organised interstate drug trafficking network. Police teams are now tracking the supply chain and possible local receivers.

Accused Identified as West Bengal Residents

The arrested individuals have been identified as Panjab Sheikh (48), son of Rezaul Sheikh, a resident of D-Para, Ranitala, and Sheikh (20), son of Shakir Sheikh from Sholua. Both accused belong to West Bengal.

Police took them into custody immediately after the seizure. Officers are questioning them to gather details about other members of the racket.

Case Registered Under NDPS Act

North Tripura Police registered a case under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Authorities confirmed that they will produce the accused before the court on Friday.

Police officials said further arrests remain likely as the investigation progresses.

Drive Aligned With Drug-Free Tripura Vision

SP Avinash Rai stated that the operation aligns with Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha’s vision of a drug-free Tripura. He stressed that the district police will continue intelligence-based operations against narcotics.

“We will not allow drug traffickers to misuse Tripura as a transit route,” SP Rai said.

Police Seek Public Cooperation

The North Tripura Police appealed to citizens to share information related to drug trafficking. Officials believe public cooperation plays a vital role in curbing narcotics crime.

This seizure stands among the largest cough syrup recoveries in the district. It highlights the increased vigilance of Tripura Police against drug smuggling.
