Key Projects Get Revised Approval
The Cabinet cleared revised estimates for the Aquatic and Tennis Complex at Umsawli. The complex will serve as one of the primary venues during the Games. Authorities are upgrading the facility to accommodate national-level competitions and athletes.
The Cabinet also approved revised costs for the Hostel Block at Umsawli. The accommodation facility will house participating athletes and officials during the event. The government expects the upgraded hostel to provide modern amenities and adequate capacity.
In Tura, the Cabinet approved revised estimates for the Sunny Hills sports facility. This venue will support events scheduled in the western part of the state.
Another major project is the Pa Togan Nengminja Sangma Athletic Stadium. The stadium will host track and field events during the Games. Officials are working to enhance infrastructure and ensure compliance with national standards.

Boost to Sports Development
The state government views the National Games as an opportunity to promote sports culture and improve long-term infrastructure. By upgrading key venues, Meghalaya aims to create facilities that will benefit local athletes even after the Games conclude.
Officials said the revised estimates reflect updated project costs and additional requirements needed to meet event guidelines. The government remains focused on timely execution and quality construction.
Flood Plain Zoning Bill 2026 Approved
Apart from sports infrastructure, the Cabinet also approved the Meghalaya Flood Plain Zoning Bill 2026.
The proposed legislation seeks to regulate development activities in flood-prone areas across the state. The Bill aims to reduce risks associated with flooding and promote safer land-use planning. Once enacted, it will guide construction and infrastructure projects in vulnerable zones.
The dual decisions underscore the government’s focus on both development and environmental management. While the sports projects prepare Meghalaya for a major national event, the zoning legislation addresses long-term safety and sustainability concerns.
With approvals now in place, the state government will accelerate work on the identified projects to ensure readiness for the National Games.
