Meghalaya Court Delivers Sentence
The Special POCSO Court in Shillong convicted Teren Mawlieh on August 28, 2026. The court found him guilty under Sections 4, 6, 8 and 10 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Police registered the case at Mawngap police station on December 7, 2020, after receiving allegations that Mawlieh had sexually assaulted his minor stepdaughter.
Following the complaint, police arrested Mawlieh and began an investigation. Investigators later filed the chargesheet on February 5, 2021.
Court Announces Multiple Sentences
The court imposed separate sentences for the offences under different sections of the POCSO Act.
Under Section 4, the court awarded 20 years’ imprisonment and a ₹30,000 fine. If Mawlieh fails to pay the fine, he will face an additional three months of simple imprisonment.
Under Section 6, the court imposed 30 years’ rigorous imprisonment and a ₹40,000 fine. Failure to pay the fine will result in another four months in prison.
The court also imposed five years’ imprisonment and a ₹10,000 fine under Section 8. An additional month of simple imprisonment will apply if he does not pay the fine.
Under Section 10, the court sentenced Mawlieh to seven years’ imprisonment and imposed a ₹20,000 fine. He will face another month in prison if he fails to pay the fine.
Police Calculate Remaining Jail Term
The court considered the period Mawlieh had already spent in custody.
According to East Khasi Hills police, he had completed three years, 11 months and 28 days in custody by the time of the sentencing order.
After adjusting that period, police said Mawlieh will serve a remaining 26 years and two days in prison.
