Nagaland has been rocked by controversy and concern following death threats issued by the NSCN-K against Rulho, a local activist. The threats have sparked strong reactions from the Citizens’ Alliance for Naga Affairs (BAN) and the Dimapur Ao Youth Organization (DAYO). Both organizations have condemned the threats and criticized the government’s lack of action.

In a recent statement, BAN’s president L Mongkum Jamir, vice-president (international) Dr. Yan Murry, and grievance cell committee member Maj (Retd) Vikuto Assumi expressed their outrage. They condemned the death penalty against Rulho, calling it “unacceptable in a civilized society.” They emphasized that such threats undermine the principles of justice and democracy.

The NSCN-K, a prominent Naga insurgent group, has been involved in various conflicts over the years. However, the current threat has drawn sharp criticism from both local and international observers. BAN and DAYO argue that the government’s response has been inadequate, further inflaming tensions within the community.

DAYO’s spokesperson also weighed in, highlighting the broader implications of such threats. He noted that allowing such intimidation to go unchecked could have severe consequences for the region’s stability and safety. The organization has called for immediate action from both the state and central governments to address the issue and ensure the protection of activists and citizens alike.

Local leaders and activists have rallied in support of Rulho, demanding a swift and decisive response from authorities. They argue that protecting individuals from such threats is crucial for maintaining law and order and upholding democratic values.

As the outcry grows, the focus shifts to how the government will handle the situation. The pressure is mounting for officials to take concrete steps to address the threats and ensure that justice prevails. Both BAN and DAYO continue to advocate for a firm stance against any form of violence and intimidation.
