NECA Telangana Launched to Boost Telangana–Northeast Community Ties

Governor Jishnu Dev Varma launched the North-East Connect Association (NECA) Telangana during the closing ceremony of the Telangana North East Connect 2025 festival. The event took place at Raj Bhavan, Hyderabad. Moreover, it marked an important step toward strengthening regional unity.

A Platform to Connect Communities

NECA aims to build stronger ties between Telangana and the Northeast Indian community. Additionally, president Paparao Biyyala and vice president Gautam Sawang said the platform will act as a bridge between cultures. They also explained that NECA will promote collaboration, dialogue, and community support. Therefore, the association hopes to create meaningful engagement between both regions.

Founders With Strong Northeastern Links

The founding members come from public service, health, law, academia, sports, and business. Moreover, many of them have deep personal and professional ties with the Northeastern states.

NECA president Paparao Biyyala served as Assam’s Home Secretary. He also worked as a Policy Advisor to the Telangana Government. Meanwhile, vice president Gautam Sawang, former Andhra Pradesh DGP, was born in Assam. His family roots are in Arunachal Pradesh. He also spent many years in various Northeastern states, which further strengthens his bond with the region.

A Diverse and Experienced Team

Other members also bring strong regional connections.
For instance:

  • K. Rajeswara Rao, an IAS officer from the Tripura cadre, adds long administrative experience.
  • Sridhar Muppidi, an entrepreneur active in the Northeast, strengthens industry collaboration.
  • Dr. S. Sahariah, founder-director of KIMS and originally from Assam, contributes healthcare expertise.
  • Prof. Ajailiu Niumai from Manipur, a Sociology professor at the University of Hyderabad, offers academic insights.
  • Stephen Sen, a Hyderabad-based lawyer, supports the association with legal guidance and community engagement.

Consequently, the team reflects a rich mix of experience and cultural understanding.

Strengthening Cultural and Social Bonds

NECA plans to promote cultural exchange, student support, and youth participation. In addition, it will encourage activities that highlight Northeastern art, music, food, and heritage. Telangana hosts many students and professionals from the Northeast; therefore, NECA aims to support their growth and integration.

The launch during the Telangana North East Connect 2025 festival further highlighted the state’s focus on unity and cultural respect. The event showcased dance, music, food, and handlooms from the region. As a result, it brought communities together in celebration.

A Step Toward Regional Unity

With NECA’s launch, Telangana has taken a strong step toward deeper cultural understanding. Furthermore, the association aims to create long-term cooperation and shared growth. Governor Jishnu Dev Varma’s presence also reflects the importance of building stronger ties between the two regions.
