The Animal Resource Development (ARD) Department has opened a new Block Veterinary Hospital at Raishyabari in the Dhalai district. The facility is expected to improve animal healthcare services in the remote region. Moreover, it aims to support farmers who depend heavily on livestock.
Leaders Join the Inauguration Ceremony
Animal Resource Development Minister Sudhangshu Das inaugurated the hospital on Tuesday. In addition, Dhalai Zilla Sabhadhipati Sushmita Das, MLA Nandita Debbarma Reang, ARD Secretary Deepa D. Nair and Director Santosh Das attended the event. Senior officials and community members were also present.
Hospital to Support Rural Livestock Farmers
During his address, the minister said the new facility would ensure faster treatment and better preventive care. Furthermore, he noted that stronger livestock management can improve rural livelihoods. The government, he added, remains committed to expanding essential services to tribal and remote areas.
Local farmers welcomed the initiative. As a result, they expect a reduction in livestock deaths and fewer economic losses. Consequently, they believe the new facility will support higher productivity.

Community Hopes for Better Services
Residents of Raishyabari said they had long faced challenges due to the lack of nearby veterinary facilities. However, they now hope to receive immediate treatment for their animals. Therefore, they expect improved milk and meat production as animal health improves.
Community representatives added that the hospital will directly support families who depend on livestock for daily income. Meanwhile, they believe the initiative aligns with the state’s rural development goals.
Minister Visits Fish Farming Units at Dumbur Lake
Earlier in the day, Minister Das visited cage-culture units in the Dumbur Lake reservoir. These units were established under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY). Additionally, the Fisheries Department is implementing the project to boost fish production and support fish farmers.
The minister inspected the cages and interacted with farmers working in the reservoir. He stated that, with better production, the project will increase local fish supply. Moreover, he noted that more than 1,512 fish farmers are expected to benefit from the initiative.
Project Aims to Make Farmers Self-Reliant
Das said the cage-culture method allows farmers to rear fish efficiently and earn steady incomes. In addition, the government is promoting sustainable practices to ensure long-term growth. Fisheries officials said they are monitoring the project closely. They also added that technical support is being provided to improve production further.
Officials believe the initiative could attract more youths to fisheries. As a result, new employment opportunities may emerge in the region.
