Arunachal Pradesh is on the verge of becoming the “Power House of India.” However, the success of this goal depends on more than just building dams. Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein recently held a high-level review meeting in Itanagar. During the session, he addressed a major challenge: the movement of energy. He urged the Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) to finish transmission lines on time. This is essential to support the major power projects in Arunachal Pradesh scheduled to start in 2025.

Reviewing the Power Grid Infrastructure

During the meeting, the Deputy Chief Minister emphasized that generating electricity is only half the work. Without a strong transmission network, the energy cannot reach the national grid or local homes. Therefore, he reviewed the progress of the “Comprehensive Scheme for Strengthening of Transmission and Distribution System” (CSST&DS).

Mein stressed that reliable power is vital for education and healthcare. Consequently, he directed officials to follow a strict timeline for laying high-tension wires. This infrastructure must be ready before the turbines begin to spin. This planning prevents the waste of renewable energy from the new power projects in Arunachal Pradesh.

Preparing for the Lower Subansiri Milestone

One major reason for this urgency is the 2,000 MW Lower Subansiri Hydropower Project. As one of the largest power projects in Arunachal Pradesh, its launch will be a historic moment for India. The Deputy Chief Minister noted that transmission lines must be ready for this event. This ensures that the 2,000 MW of electricity can move immediately once the project is finished.

Furthermore, the state government is working to solve long-standing hurdles. For example, they are clearing “Right of Way” issues in forest areas. A major success mentioned was the resolution of a boundary dispute with Assam. This progress has cleared the path for the 132 kV Kolaptukar–Likabali line to move forward.

Achievements in the Power Sector

Despite the difficult mountain terrain, the state has reached several goals in 2025.

  • New Substations: Eight major 132/33 kV substations are now finished in places like Seppa and Khonsa.
  • Local Power: Twelve smaller 33/11 kV substations are now working to help local towns like Doimukh.
  • Compensation Rules: The government created a new relief package to settle land issues in forest areas.

Working with Local Communities

Chief Minister Chowna Mein also asked PGCIL to work closely with local leaders. Building large power lines often involves using community land. Therefore, he suggested that a “friendly association” with villagers is the best way to avoid delays.

The government is also focusing on worker safety. For instance, they are creating a new safety plan for maintaining high-voltage lines. This careful approach ensures that the growth of power projects in Arunachal Pradesh is safe for everyone.

Conclusion: A Vision for Energy Success

The Deputy Chief Minister’s message is a clear call for action. By finishing transmission lines on time, the government ensures that its energy goals become a reality. This effort will turn the state’s water resources into economic wealth. Consequently, these power lines will light up remote villages and help the entire Northeast region grow.
