TIPRA Motha chairman and Tripura royal scion Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma has arrived in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) to campaign for Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) chief Hagrama Mohilary ahead of the 2025 Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections.

Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma is set to campaign in the Srirampur constituency alongside Mohilary, as the BPF looks to strengthen its presence in the region. Addressing supporters, he praised Mohilary’s leadership and pledged his full support, remarking, “What will a tiger eat if he befriends a goat? March forward, I am going to support you.” He also mentioned that Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has extended support.

A key contest is shaping up in the 14 Chirang Duar constituency, where Hagrama Mohilary is facing a tough challenge from former BPF leader Kampa Borgoyari. Borgoyari joined the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) six months ago and is now contesting against his former ally.

The BTC elections this year are witnessing a multi-cornered contest, with the BPF, UPPL, Indian National Congress (INC), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the Alternative Party of Bodoland (APB), led by Anjali Daimary, in the fray.

Voting for the 2025 BTC elections will be held on September 22 across 3,359 polling stations, with counting scheduled for September 26. If necessary, a re-poll will take place on September 24. The total electorate for the elections stands at 6,57,937, comprising male, female, and other category voters.

Observers say Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma’s presence in the campaign is likely to boost the morale of BPF workers and could influence voters in constituencies where the contest is expected to be close.
