Tipra Motha Party founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma on Wednesday urged the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) to appoint state cricketer Manisankar Murasingh as its brand ambassador. He said recognising local achievers is essential to encourage youth and preserve regional pride.
Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma stated that talented individuals from Tripura often fail to receive timely recognition. Instead, authorities tend to look outside the state for validation. He described this approach as unfortunate and counterproductive.
“Diamond Within Our Own Home,” Says Debbarma
Referring to Murasingh, Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma said society frequently ignores “the diamond within its own home.” According to him, Tripura has many capable individuals who deserve institutional support and public acknowledgment.
He stressed that promoting local icons sends a strong message to young people. It also helps build confidence among aspiring athletes and artists.

Murasingh’s IPL Snub Should Not Define His Value
Manisankar Murasingh, a 32-year-old all-rounder, represents Tripura in domestic cricket. Despite consistent performances, he recently went unsold in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction.
Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma said the IPL outcome should not undermine Murasingh’s stature. He called the cricketer a role model for young sportspersons across the state. According to him, success should not be measured only by IPL contracts.
Impact on Youth and Sports Culture
Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma warned that ignoring local players could hurt youth motivation. He said young athletes may lose faith if they see limited support for state-level achievers.
He added that recognition from local institutions plays a crucial role. It helps young players believe that hard work and dedication will be rewarded.
Clarification on Sourav Ganguly’s Appointment
Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma clarified that his remarks were not directed against the state government. He said the appointment of former India captain Sourav Ganguly as Tripura’s brand ambassador was a positive decision.
He also expressed deep respect for Ganguly’s contribution to Indian cricket. However, he maintained that such appointments should not overshadow local talent.
Call for Balanced Use of Public Funds
The Tipra Motha founder said Tripura has abundant talent in sports, music, and the arts. He questioned why public funds are often spent on personalities from outside the state.
According to him, supporting local achievers would yield long-term benefits. It would also strengthen Tripura’s cultural and sporting identity.
Proposal for Cricket Academy Support
Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma said he has formally requested the TTAADC to appoint Murasingh as its brand ambassador. He also suggested providing institutional backing if the cricketer plans to set up a cricket academy in Tripura.
Such an initiative, he said, would help nurture grassroots talent. It would also improve sports infrastructure in the state.
Changing the Mindset on Local Recognition
Drawing a parallel with earlier demands for Secured Indian Reservation, Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma said ideas often gain acceptance only after outside endorsement. He argued that this mindset must change.
He concluded that genuine respect for local talent is essential. According to him, recognising achievers like Murasingh can inspire youth and help Tripura move forward with confidence.
