In a major move to enhance the accessibility of nutritious dairy products, Purabi, Northeast India’s largest dairy cooperative, has inaugurated a Purabi Milk Booth at the Janata Bhawan in Dispur. This new booth, launched on December 18, 2024, aims to provide fresh dairy products to government officials, visitors, and the public, contributing to the promotion of a healthy lifestyle.

The booth was inaugurated by Dr. B. Kalyan Chakravarthy, Additional Chief Secretary, in the presence of Aruna Rajoria, APC and Chairman of ARIAS Society, and Virendra Mittal, State Project Director of ARIAS Society. The event was organized by the West Assam Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union Ltd (WAMUL) and the newly established North East Dairy and Foods Limited (NEDFL), a joint venture between the Government of Assam and the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB).

A Step Forward in Assam’s Dairy Sector

The launch of the Purabi Milk Booth at Janata Bhawan is part of a broader initiative to transform the dairy sector in Assam and improve access to high-quality dairy products. This booth is designed under the World Bank-funded APART Project, aiming to bridge the gap in the availability of nutritious and fresh dairy products in Assam’s capital, Guwahati.

Purabi Milk Booth offers a wide array of Purabi dairy products, including milk, lassi, flavoured milk, ice cream, curd, ghee, paneer, and fresh cream. The booth is strategically located at the entrance of Janata Bhawan, making it convenient for both government employees and the public to purchase dairy items, promoting a healthier living environment.

A Modern Infrastructure for Healthier Lifestyles

Dr. B. Kalyan Chakravarthy, during the inauguration, emphasized that the booth exemplifies how modern infrastructure can play a crucial role in enhancing public health. The initiative aligns with the Assam government’s efforts to increase milk production and boost the state’s dairy sector. By offering fresh and nutritious dairy products, the project aims to support local employment and create sustainable growth in Assam’s agricultural and dairy sectors.

“This is an example of how we can transform the dairy sector by combining modern infrastructure with local employment opportunities, and it will contribute to the overall health and well-being of our community,” said Dr. Chakravarthy.

Expanding Purabi’s Reach Across Assam

The Purabi Milk Booth at Janata Bhawan is not the only step in making Purabi dairy products more accessible. Purabi Milk Booths have already been set up in various key locations across Guwahati, including:

  • Gauhati Medical College & Hospital
  • Opposite Assam State Zoo and Botanical Garden
  • Indian Oil Petrol Pump at Khanapara

Additionally, Purabi Parlours have been launched in Panjabari and Changsari, strategically placed opposite AIIMS. These modern booths and parlours are designed to offer a wide variety of dairy products, including toned, standard, and full-cream milk. The booths are also set to offer select products from the well-known Mother Dairy brand, such as butter, cheese, and canned sweets.

Business Opportunities and Growth Models

The Purabi Milk Booths operate under the Company Owned Franchisee Operated (COFO) model, which is designed to ensure operational efficiency while promoting entrepreneurship. In the future, there are plans to transition to a Franchisee Owned and Franchisee Operated (FOFO) model. This shift is intended to encourage more local entrepreneurs to participate in the dairy sector, creating additional business opportunities and promoting economic growth in Assam.

By empowering entrepreneurs, Purabi is not only increasing access to quality dairy products but also encouraging the local economy to thrive, offering a sustainable pathway for growth in Assam’s dairy and agribusiness sectors.

Purabi’s Commitment to Revolutionizing Assam’s Dairy Sector

The opening of the Purabi Milk Booth at Janata Bhawan marks a critical step in WAMUL’s mission to revolutionize Assam’s dairy industry. The cooperative has long been committed to improving the livelihoods of dairy farmers in the region and ensuring the availability of high-quality dairy products at affordable prices. The establishment of the booth is a testament to the dedication of WAMUL and the NEDFL in supporting Assam’s dairy sector.

Moreover, with the establishment of Purabi booths across multiple strategic locations, Assam is poised to become a hub for high-quality dairy products, significantly improving public health and access to essential nutrients. This initiative also sets the stage for greater community involvement and economic growth by fostering a robust dairy supply chain in the region.

The inauguration of the Purabi Milk Booth at Janata Bhawan represents a crucial milestone in enhancing access to fresh and nutritious dairy products for the people of Guwahati and beyond. By expanding the availability of Purabi products and empowering local entrepreneurs, Assam is well on its way to becoming a leader in sustainable dairy development in Northeast India. This initiative not only supports the health and well-being of local communities but also strengthens the state’s dairy industry, benefiting both consumers and producers alike.
