Defence Minister Rajnath Singh virtually inaugurated the BrahMos Aerospace Integration and Testing Facility in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The facility is expected to play a key role in strengthening the nation’s missile manufacturing ecosystem and advancing defence production under the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
The newly inaugurated centre will focus on the integration, assembly, and testing of the BrahMos missile system, one of the world’s fastest supersonic cruise missiles. The project marks a major step toward enhancing self-reliance in defence manufacturing and is part of the larger Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor initiative.
During the virtual address, Rajnath Singh, who also represents Lucknow as a Member of Parliament, expressed pride in the city’s growing role in the defence sector. “This facility will not only generate employment but also position Lucknow as a critical hub for advanced defence technologies,” he said.
The Defence Minister emphasized that India is committed to enhancing its strategic capabilities through indigenous production. “The BrahMos facility will add tremendous value to our defence preparedness and foster technological innovation,” Singh added.
BrahMos Aerospace, a joint venture between India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Russia’s NPOM, is responsible for producing the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, which can be launched from land, air, sea, and sub-sea platforms. The missile system has already been inducted into the Indian Armed Forces and is known for its speed, precision, and reliability.
The integration and testing unit in Lucknow will complement existing production units and help meet the growing domestic and international demand for the BrahMos missile system. Defence experts believe this facility will significantly reduce production time and accelerate deployment capabilities.
This development further cements Lucknow’s growing importance in India’s strategic defence map and supports the government’s broader goal of making India a global hub for defence manufacturing.
