A disturbing incident shook the local community on October 23, 2025, when rapper Zwingli Debbarma, popularly known as Zwing Lee, discovered that his property in Santir Bazar Market, Dhalai district, had been vandalised and set on fire. The attack destroyed several shops, furniture, and restaurants, leaving the local business community in shock.
The identity of the perpetrators remains unknown, and the motive behind the attack is yet to be clarified. Initial reports indicate that the vandals targeted the property deliberately, causing significant financial and emotional damage.
Local media initially did not cover the incident, but Zwing Lee brought attention to the crime through social media. Sharing photos and videos of the destroyed property, he expressed his deep anguish. “We’ve always used our art to spread love and positivity,” Zwing Lee said. “Seeing our memories and hard work reduced to ashes has broken us deeply.” His post quickly went viral, drawing widespread sympathy and support from fans, fellow artists, and local residents.

An FIR has been filed, and the Dhalai district police have reportedly launched an investigation. No arrests have been made so far, and the inquiry is ongoing. After highlighting on social media that his name was missing from the list of affected property owners, Zwing Lee shared that the matter was promptly addressed. The SDM office reached out, conducted an enquiry, and ensured his name was added to the official list. He expressed gratitude to the officials for their swift and responsive action.
The Santir Bazar Market, a hub for local businesses and eateries, has been left in distress following the incident. Business owners expressed concern over safety and security, urging local authorities to take stronger measures to prevent such acts in the future.
Community leaders and fans of Zwing Lee have also launched awareness campaigns on social media, condemning the act of vandalism. Many supporters have pledged to help rebuild the property and assist the affected business owners.
