Tripura legislator Philip Kumar Reang of the Tipra Motha Party has raised the alarm over shocking security lapses at the state’s New MLA Hostel, claiming that he was openly threatened late Monday night by a group of unidentified men.

According to Reang, the incident occurred around 10 pm, when 3–4 unknown men, allegedly intoxicated, confronted him just outside his allotted room. The MLA said he was left stunned by the audacity of the intruders, who managed to breach security and directly approach his quarters.

“The New MLA Hostel is not safe for elected representatives. I was threatened by 3–4 drunken persons right in front of my room. Who will take responsibility for such a serious security breach?” Reang demanded.

Security of MLAs Under Question

The shocking incident has sparked outrage and ignited a debate over the safety of legislators in Tripura. If such an episode can unfold inside a high-security government facility meant exclusively for MLAs, questions naturally arise about the effectiveness of security arrangements across the state.

Reang, visibly shaken but firm in his stance, pointed out that the incident is not just a threat to elected representatives but also a dark signal about public safety.

“If MLAs are not safe inside their own government quarters, how can ordinary citizens feel secure in Tripura?” he remarked.

Political Tremors and Public Outcry

The allegations have sent shockwaves through the political corridors of Tripura. Opposition leaders and concerned citizens are demanding immediate accountability and a thorough probe into how such a glaring security lapse could occur at a facility guarded round the clock.

While authorities are yet to issue a detailed response, pressure is mounting on the state government to act swiftly and ensure the safety of legislators, as the incident has exposed vulnerabilities in the very system meant to protect them.

A Wake-Up Call?

This sensational development has turned the spotlight firmly on the state’s security apparatus. For many, the chilling question remains: if elected representatives are unsafe in the heart of the capital, what hope is there for the common people living outside such guarded zones?
