Tarun Vijay Visits Tripura to Meet Angel Chakma’s Family, Pushes for Swift Justice

Former Uttarakhand Member of Parliament Tarun Vijay arrived in Tripura on Thursday as part of efforts to express solidarity with the family of Angel Chakma, who was allegedly murdered in Dehradun. His visit is scheduled to continue on Friday, when he will meet the bereaved family to convey condolences on behalf of the Uttarakhand government.

The visit is being viewed as a gesture highlighting the Uttarakhand government’s sensitivity toward the tragic incident. It also reflects growing political and public attention on the case, which has sparked outrage across several states.

Nationwide Protests After Angel Chakma Murder

Angel Chakma’s reported murder in Dehradun has triggered widespread protests and emotional reactions across the country. Student groups and civil society organizations have demanded swift justice, while concerns over the safety of students from the Northeast studying outside the region have resurfaced.

Arrests Made, Main Accused on the Run

According to Uttarakhand Police, four of the five suspects allegedly involved in the crime have been arrested so far. However, authorities claim the prime accused has fled to Nepal. In response, police teams have intensified efforts to trace and apprehend him.

Officials have stated that coordination with other agencies is underway. Meanwhile, surveillance and cross-border tracking measures have been strengthened to prevent the accused from evading arrest.

Chief Minister Assures Harshest Punishment

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has assured that all those responsible will face the harshest punishment under the law. He emphasized that the government would not tolerate crimes that threaten public safety and social harmony.

Similarly, the Tripura government has expressed solidarity with Angel Chakma’s family. Both state governments have extended financial assistance to support the bereaved family during this difficult period.

SIT Formed to Speed Up Investigation

In a further step toward ensuring justice, the Uttarakhand Police have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The team has been tasked with tracking down the prime accused and conducting a comprehensive probe into the murder case.

According to officials, the SIT will focus on evidence collection, witness protection, and inter-state coordination. Authorities believe this move will help fast-track the investigation and strengthen the case.

Meetings With Tripura Leadership

During his Tripura visit, Tarun Vijay met Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu earlier on Thursday. Later in the evening, he is expected to meet Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha to discuss the case and related concerns.

On Friday, Vijay is scheduled to visit Angel Chakma’s residence to personally meet her family. Through this visit, he aims to reaffirm institutional support and assure the family that justice will be pursued without delay.

Safety Concerns for Northeast Students Resurface

The incident has once again brought attention to the safety of students from the Northeast studying in other parts of India. Many organizations have urged the central and state governments to introduce stronger protective mechanisms and grievance redressal systems.

Despite assurances from authorities, student bodies continue to demand systemic reforms. They argue that ensuring safety and dignity is essential to restoring trust among communities.
