Tipra Motha legislator Ranjit Debbarma has levelled serious allegations of corruption in the recent police constable recruitment drive, demanding immediate criminal proceedings against a Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), his staff, and members of the recruitment board, including its chairman.
In a detailed representation to the authorities, Debbarma alleged that Anamika Debbarma, daughter of Sri Kajal Sinha of Fultali under Kailasahar Sub-Division, Unakoti District, was wrongly selected as a women constable in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category by producing a fake ST certificate.
According to the MLA, Anamika’s father belongs to the Manipuri community (Unreserved category), while her mother is from the Debbarma (Tripuri) tribe. Citing legal precedents, he stressed that caste or tribe status is determined by paternal lineage, not maternal, thereby rendering her ST certificate invalid.
Debbarma accused the concerned SDM and his assistants of knowingly issuing the certificate on the basis of forged documents, making them liable for prosecution if proven fake. Alternatively, if the certificate is genuine, he said the officials who prepared fraudulent documents must be held accountable.
The Tipra Motha leader also questioned the role of Recruitment Board Chairman Jayanta Chakraborty, IPS, Principal of KTDS Police Academy, Narsingarh, who, along with other members, approved what he described as a tainted merit list. He pointed out that Anamika was placed at Serial No. 124 (Roll No. 10049) with 61 marks out of 100, and was recommended against an unreserved vacancy despite being listed under ST quota.
Debbarma further claimed that multiple candidates have complained about corruption in the merit list and demanded a comprehensive review to uncover irregularities and financial malpractice.
Key Demands Raised by Ranjit Debbarma:
- Registration of a criminal case against Anamika Debbarma for using a fake ST certificate.
- Legal action against the SDM and assistants for issuing the certificate on fabricated grounds.
- Prosecution of the Recruitment Board Chairman and members for approving a defective merit list.
- Full review of the merit list to identify fraudulent selections.
- Cancellation of appointments of all defaulting constables.
The MLA reminded that he had earlier written to the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST), demanding cancellation of ST benefits for tribal women who marry non-ST men, alleging that such marriages are being misused to wrongfully claim reservations.
Calling the recruitment scandal a serious breach of trust in one of the state’s most sensitive departments, Debbarma urged the Tripura Government to act promptly to restore transparency and public confidence.
