Tripura: Three members of the same family lost their lives due to a landslide in the Kachchop Chhara area of Debipur ADC Village, under the Shantirbazar subdivision. The landslide, triggered by heavy rainfall over the past few days, struck the home of Trishankar Chakma at around 4 AM.
The victims of this tragic event have been identified as Trishankar Chakma (father), Ranjani Chakma (41, mother), and Mita Chakma (12, daughter). The family was asleep when the disaster occurred, leaving them with no time to escape. Tragically, only one family member survived, albeit with injuries.
Local sources report that the continuous downpour in the region had already caused significant damage to infrastructure, including roads. This has severely hampered rescue operations, with authorities struggling to reach the affected area. As of now, local residents have taken it upon themselves to conduct rescue efforts, working tirelessly in the hope of finding survivors.
The remote location and the extent of road damage have made it difficult for official rescue teams to access the site, further complicating the situation. The heavy rains continue to pose a threat, with fears of additional landslides in the area.
The Chakma family’s tragic loss has cast a shadow over the community, highlighting the urgent need for better disaster preparedness and infrastructure in the region. As rescue efforts continue, authorities are urging residents in vulnerable areas to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
