Tripura : Latest notification released by the Teachers’ Recruitment Board of Tripura (TRBT) for the appointment of 1,033 post-graduate teachers (STPGT) across various subjects has sparked widespread disappointment and anger among STGT aspirants who appeared for their examination nearly three years ago in September 2022.
According to TRBT’s earlier schedule, the 2022 Selection Test for Graduate Teachers (STGT) was conducted to fill 230 vacant posts, drawing as many as 10,595 candidates. However, despite the passage of almost three years, the results of that exam remain unpublished.
One of the candidates, speaking on condition of anonymity, expressed deep frustration over the prolonged delay. “What is most unfortunate is that even though close to three years have passed since the exam was taken, the results have not yet been declared. Initially, the delay was due to a court case on the reservation issue, but that case was settled long ago. Yet neither TRBT nor the government has given any explanation,” the candidate said.
The aspirants point out the glaring contrast with the STPGT exam of 2022, which was held simultaneously. The results of that exam were declared, and recruitment was completed—while the fate of STGT candidates continues to hang in uncertainty.
Adding to their grievances, candidates claim that repeated attempts to meet the departmental minister in deputation have failed. “Every time we tried to approach the minister, police prevented us and drove us away. This is most unfortunate and regrettable,” said another aspirant still waiting for the results.
Meanwhile, the new TRBT notification has triggered fresh resentment among candidates from the Education stream, as the subject has been completely excluded from the current recruitment list. Students holding honours and master’s degrees in Education feel neglected and demoralized.
A postgraduate student of Education, visibly upset, told reporters, “The subject of Education has been totally ignored, even though it is an important discipline with many qualified candidates and ongoing students. The rationale behind this exclusion is incomprehensible.”
The notification has also caused dissatisfaction in smaller departments. For instance, only six posts have been allotted for Philosophy, despite a significantly higher demand for teachers in the subject.
Educationists and aspirants believe such omissions and delays reflect systemic neglect of the teaching community in Tripura. They fear this uncertainty could not only harm the career prospects of thousands of candidates but also worsen the shortage of qualified teachers in schools across the state.
For now, STGT aspirants of 2022 continue to demand the immediate publication of their long-delayed results, while students of Education and Philosophy call for a revision of the newly announced recruitment notification to ensure fairness and inclusivity.
